Product Round-up Mono laser printers have been available for 30 years and remain the bedrock of most business. From small printers in home offices to large ones in corporate departments, they print most of the commercial correspondence in the country, yet their technical specs have changed little.

They are now faster, have higher resolution and many print duplex. They also cost a lot less these days, although faster printers still command much higher prices. The key feature of mono lasers is that they print text much better than inkjets.

Skype can be used to tie users to illegal download activity

A team of researchers has proved that it is possible to determine the IP address of a user and tie it with his Internet use, and even correlate this information to his file-sharing activity with high accuracy, by taking advantage of a privacy hole in Skype.

What’s more, the user is completely unaware of this happening and the entire scheme is easily scaled to incorporate the simultaneous monitoring of Internet usage patterns of some 10,000 users, and all for the extremely low price of some $500 per week.

Tim Berners-Lee calls for a new breed of information security systems

World Wide Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee has called on the IT security industry to develop a new breed of systems that make it easy for people to use personal data only in appropriate ways.

“Think about systems that deal with ‘appropriate use’; that make people accountable for their use of data and that check that data is used in the right way,” he told the closing session of RSA Conference Europe 2011 in London.

Security developers should move beyond locking down information to finding ways of showing users only the data they should have access to, where the data has come from, where it is going, and how it should be used, he said.

Rumor: Amazon Unveiling Android Powered Tablet PC on Wednesday

Amazon.com has slated a news conference for Wednesday, and media speculation focuses on the prospect that the Internet retailing major will unveil a tablet computer to compete with Apple Inc.’s market-dominating iPad. A new Kindle tablet would combine the retailer’s prominent electronic-book reader with connection to Amazon’s offerings of MP3 music and digital videos. And the media talk says the tablet will run on Google’s Android operating system, which means access to the Android applications at Amazon’s app store.
