DOD releases 5-point cyber defense plan

The Defense Department’s new strategy for defending computer networks brings government and industry together as partmers, said Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn in announcing the plan July 14.
Lynn stressed the critical threat the nation faces and the need for a multi-faceted, evolving approach – including key partnerships – to counter the threat.
“The cyber environment we face is dynamic. As such, our strategy must be dynamic as well,” Lynn said. “While today is an important milestone, it is only one part of the department’s first ever Strategy for Operating in Cyberspace.”

Google 2Q earnings soar past analyst estimates
Written by Eliza Hardacre on July 13, 2011 – 6:05 amSAN FRANCISCO — Google Inc. ushered in new CEO Larry Page with second-quarter earnings that were far better than analysts expected.
The results released Thursday reassured investors who had been fretting whether Google would still thrive under Page’s leadership. The Google co-founder replaced Eric Schmidt, the CEO of the previous decade, at the start of the quarter.
Wall Street wasted little time signaling its exuberance with Page’s performance. Google shares increased $52.69, or 10 percent, to $581.63 in extended trading after finishing the regular session at $528.94.

HP Play music service works in the beta

And now its music offerHP Playearned in the mode of public beta. However, so far implemented only the most basic functionality, it is proposed mainly synchronized audio content between computer and mobile device – without the “cloud” storage, OTA synchronization, online stores and other buns. HP Play works with models based on the operating system webOS, the tablet HP TouchPad and Smartphones HP Veer and Pre 3 (yet to be released).

Amazon Hosting added Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Written by Emma McAlpine on July 12, 2011 – 7:33 pmAmazon recently announced on their Web Services blog that users of the Electric Computer Cloud (EC2) infrastructure will be adding a service that has the ability to run Red Hat Enterprise Linux featuring support from Amazon and Red Hat. This is further proof that Amazon continues to expand its AWS offerings.
Compatible Software
The EC2 service was primarily based on the Windows operating system with a limited number of Linux distributors such as SUSE, OpenSolaris and Oracle. The implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is only the beginning. Amazon has plans to run Red Hat’s Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo and Debian in the near future. T
